| 1 | When creating you're resolution, think about what difference this change will truly make to your life. Do you really want to achieve it? Is it you're goal, or someone elses? Do you really want to stop smoking or do you just feel you should? You have to truly want it in order to achieve. |
| 2 | Is your resolution realistic and measurable? How will you know you've achieved it? Focus on an event, activity or measurement to work towards. ('I want to get fit' isn't measurable and gives you nothing to head towards - by changing it to 'I want to reduce my body fat by 5% and comfortably play football for the full 90 minutes by July 1st' gives it more meaning and focus.) |
| 3 | Break it down into smaller, more achievable steps. (If you want to run a marathon, enter a fun 5km charity run first and gradually increase the distance and intensity of event.) |
| 4 | Find a way to bring some fun and enjoyment into your resolution. Ask a friend to join you or make new friends and add a sense of adventure. |
| 5 | Discover you're inspirations. What excites you and makes you want to do more? Particular music? A film? A person? Books, magazines? Find and use them as much as possible. World class athletes often use specific music to motivate and support them during training and to rev them up before a competition. |
| 6 | Share
your resolution and plan with someone that makes you feel good.
Share you're thoughts and feelings with them as you progress.
If you cannot think of anyone you'd like to share it with use a
journal, or invest in a Personal Life Coach. Draw or write your goal and plan out and place it somewhere you will
see it every day - create a week/month planner so you can see the
journey you are taking. Another alternative is to e-mail your resolutions and plan to me at lara@laracollins.co.uk. Every week you can send me an e-mail to let me know how you feel you're getting on allow yourself to share you're fears, doubts and achievements. |
| 7 | Choose a reward for yourself for achieving your resolution and make sure you receive it at the end. Feeling worthy and deserving of rewards are an important part of setting resolutions/goals. You will have every right to feel proud and good about yourself. |
